Allan Frank Davis Obituary.
Published Daily Examiner Grafton
The death occurred in Grafton Base Hospital of Alan Frank Davis, eldest son of the late George Davis and Mrs Davis Snr. Of 299 Ryan Street, South Grafton.
Allan was born and had his schooling on the Upper Orara where the family were engaged in farming. He grew up with a love for the soil and farm animals. Prominent in community life, he held executive positions in the hall committee and the Upper Orara branch of the Primary Producers’ Union. When the family moved to Copmanhurst in 1940, the loss to their former community was a great gain to Copmanhurst.
Alan always believed in denying himself to serve the needs of others. His rich and productive vegetable garden always carried more than was necessary to meet the needs of the family and it was a great joy for him to be able to give a variety of vegetables away.
He was very active in the life of the community and prior to moving to South Grafton in 1967, was president of the Copmanhurst War Memorial Hall Committee and an active member of the rodeo committee. The rodeo committee presented him with a life membership certificate for 11 year’s meritorious service at the rodeo dance last year.
He was recognised as a competent dairy farmer and more lately a successful grazier.
He is survived by his mother, brothers, Bert of Woolgoolga, Arthur of Casino and Ted of Ryan Street South Grafton, and three sisters Nell (Mrs W Casson, of Upper Orara), Jess (Mrs Bert Martin, of Palmers Channel) and Ada of 299 Ryan Street South Grafton.
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Keith Thompson, in the Bent Street Methodist Church at which the Rev C L Steep, Anglican Vicar of Copmanhurst paid a tribute as a member of a community which highly respected Alan and felt a loss at his departing. A big crowd of friends and relatives joined in the procession to the Lawn Cemetery and the multitude of floral wreaths reflected the high esteem in which he was held.
Alan Davis will be remembered as a christian gentleman. He will also be remembered for his friendship and unselfish service, but above all for the loving concern for his aged mother and sister as well as the other members of the family.
Funeral arrangements were by John Schneider.
