When Albert John Hoschke was born on 27 July 1879 in Bathurst, New South Wales, his father, Amandus, was 35 and his mother, Mary, was 31. Albert was eight when his family journeyed north and settled in the Orara Valley.

In 1905, Albert (25) secured a highly contested purchase of 200 acres of land. 13,000 acres of crown land has been released for purchase or conditional lease, and Albert’s brother Harold Hoschke was also bidding for the same plot.
