August married Henrietta Selina RICHARDS on 30 Sep 1903.  They had five children:

  1. Walter Frank,
  2. Lionel Edgar,
  3. Selina Mary,
  4. Henry Carl, and
  5. Anzac K.

Frank was the second son of Amandus and Mary Ann Hoschke, he was born in 1872 in Bathurst and came to the Orara Valley with his family when he was 14.

Before the coming of sawmills 1904, Frank and his older brother George did a lot of cutting of cedar and other building materials, many homes in Orara Valley were built from timber cut by Frank & George.

In the Spring of 1903 Frank married Henrietta Selina Richards, 24, the only daughter of Thomas and Selina Richards. Henrietta was known as Hetta. Their son Walter was born the next year, followed by another son Lionel in 1907.

In December 1907 a farewell was held for Frank and Hetta on the eve of their departure for Inverell, where they recently purchased a property ‘in the interests of their children’s health.’

It was one of the largest gatherings that ever assembled in the local hall, and as it was only announced one clear day previously the large attendance was unimpeachable evidence of the esteem and respect in which they were held in the community. Addresses were given outlining Frank’s sterling worth as a citizen, Sunday-school superintendent, officer of the church, a neighbour, and a Christian; also of their appreciation of Hettie’s assistance to the various churches by officiating at the organ during services, etc. The audience contributed their testimony by heartily singing “They’re jolly good fellows,” and cheering until a person was inclined to become anxious about the welfare of the roof.

Their only daughter Selina, known as Lina, was born in Inverell in 1911 but by 1916 they had returned to the coast and settled on the last hill coming into Coffs Harbour from the south, on Bellingen Road, where the Premier Motel is now.

In May 1916 Frank and Hetta’s youngest son Anzac was born prematurely at home and tragically passed away after only four days. He is buried in the Coffs Cemetery.

Frank & Henrietta with Walter, Lionel and Selina

Frank worked as a carpenter on the Coffs Harbour Jetty and also cut sleepers for railway lines in the district, at times travelling away as far as north queensland.

Sadly in 1947, Henrietta passed away suddenly aged 68. Newspapers at the time reported, “The late Mrs Hoschke collapsed after having paid a visit to friends at Coffs Harbour Jetty. The family had been Coffs residents for the past 34 years. During that period Mrs Hoschke was a staunch supporter and valued worker for the Church of England. She was a member of the original Church of England choir and the Ladies Guild and rendered long and faithful service as church organist in town and district churches. Henrietta was survived by her husband Frank, three sons and a daughter Lina.”

When he was in his 70’s Frank who was still working, fell off a roof and broke his back. His fractures took over 6 months to heal.

Frank would live another 17 years before passing away in August 1964 at the ripe age of 91. Both he and Henrietta are buried in the 2nd Anglican section of the Coffs Historical Cemetery, not far from his parents and several of his siblings.
