We are very sad to let everyone know that Doug Hoschke passed peacefully this week.
The funeral for Doug will be held at the Karangi Lawn Cemetery on Monday February 6 at 11am. It will be followed by refreshments at the Upper Orara Public Hall. Dress is colourful casual. Doug was the third of five boys born to Arthur and Jean. He was a grandson of Frederick and Clunie who were the first owners of the family farm. Also, a great-grandson of Amandus who was one of the original Orara settlers. His brothers were Fred, Eric, Graham and Ian.
Doug attended the local Upper Orara primary school following in the footsteps of his grandmother, an original pupil, and being followed today by his grandson and great granddaughter. He married Margaret Turnbull and they had five children being Dianne, Geoff, Judy, Lyn and Nick.
Doug had a strong sense of family and its history. He had learnt much about the family history from Aunty Annie (grandfather’s sister) and had a collection of photos, notes and articles which greatly helped in the 2013 family reunion of which he was an organiser.
He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 61 years, the five children, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and brother Ian.
